Why Chant?
Sound affects material existence. It changes vibration. All matter including what the body is made of is in constant motion; that’s its’ vibration. Therefore if you chant Sanskrit mantra and effect the vibration, you are actually changing your material body. –Julie Brooks
Chanting is another tool; like meditation, taking a walk, practicing yoga, and writing in our journal. Chanting mantras calms the mind and gently changes our focus.
Durga : The Shakti of Protection
Om Dum Durgayei Namaha
“Om and salutations to She who protects the pious.”
Durga (a multi-dimensional Hindu goddess) is the aspect of the Divine Mother that is protection.
“Traditionally, depicted as shining with spiritual energy and tender compassion, she seems at first the gentlest of feminine aspects. Then you notice that she is riding a tiger, and that in each of her many arms she carries a weapon. This apparent contradiction is resolved in Durga’s dual role as protector of the spirit and destroyer of evil. Her weapons defend the pious against malicious intent or actions. Her smile reassures the innocent and good of her protection. To the arrogant, tyrannical, or demonic, on the other hand, she is a terrifying apparition. The weapons become active, and the tiger strains to pounce. Durga’s beautific smile fades and the power shines through her mask of beauty.” -Mantras: Sacred Words of Power by Thomas Ashley-Farrand
Chant this in as low of an octave as you can. It directly affects your root chakra and protects you from any and all negative energies.
